Are you planning to visit New Orleans during Carnival and wondering what to wear to a Mardi Gras parade? You definitely need festive Mardi Gras party attire for parades and parade parties! This is true whether it’s your first Mardi Gras, or you’re a local who’s lived here your whole life.
Today I’m excited to share my favorite Mardi Gras party attire with you. I’ll provide links to the items I’m wearing within the post. In addition, I’ll add links to some similar options.
Many visitors and locals alike dress in costume on Fat Tuesday. However, lots of folks prefer to dress more comfortably for a day on the parade route. This type of Mardi Gras party attire usually consists of jeans and a festive top, in the traditional colors. This is also typical attire for all of the parades leading up to Fat Tuesday.
What to Wear to a Mardi Gras Parade
Accessories
Besides planning what to wear to a Mardi Gras parade, locals enjoy sporting our purple, green, and gold all season long. A fun way to do this is by wearing fashionable Mardi Gras accessories, just about any time we leave the house.
This Mardi Gras infinity scarf is a perfect example. I like this particular scarf because it makes a Mardi Gras statement without being too loud. I wear a lot of black, and this is the perfect seasonal addition to a black top for an easy, casual outfit.
This outfit was one that I wore from “day-to-evening” the other day. I paired skinny jeans and tall black suede boots with a sleeveless black top and my Mardi Gras infinity scarf. It was perfect for running around all day, and seamlessly transitioned into our evening parade-watching.
I also love this Mardi Gras Chevron Infinity Scarf shown below. This one would be awesome with a white long-sleeve tee-shirt and jeans. The Chevron print is so much fun, don’t you think? Hmmm, I may need to add this to my collection!

Speaking of chevron prints…I grabbed this top as soon as I saw it! This Mardi Gras chevron print tunic (similar) is a fabulous top for all of your Mardi Gras festivities.
It has a generous cut in both body and length, plus 3/4 dolman sleeves, making it the perfect top to wear with skinny jeans or jeggings. It is very soft, has lots of stretch and is lightweight. This is important, especially this year, since the weather has been so warm. Furthermore, the fact that it is not too heavy makes it perfect for layering.
We were invited to an evening parade party at a friend’s home last week. I styled this top with these denim knit leggings which I love. They fit great, were ultra-comfortable, and are under $50!
I added tan and gold accessories with a long taupe leather tassel necklace (similar), hammered gold ring (similar), and Tory Burch leather logo cuff bracelet.
No parade-watching outfit would be complete without stylish shoes that are also comfortable! These suede booties complemented the outfit perfectly, and were very comfortable. As a result, my feet did not bother me at all the entire night!
As the weather got cooler throughout the evening, I added a grey Cashmere poncho (similar) to keep warm.
Look for details on some of the items I wore, as well as similar items and other fun Mardi Gras accessories at the end of this post.
