Decorating for Valentine’s Day
Here in New Orleans, Valentine’s Day home decor usually takes a back seat to Mardi Gras decor. However, I always try to think of a few Valentine decorations ideas to celebrate this romantic holiday!
The Mardi Gras season varies in length each year, so Mardi Gras day always falls on a different date. But, regardless of the actual date of Fat Tuesday, Valentine’s Day is always during the Mardi Gras season.
So, during this time, we are busy decorating our homes in purple, green and gold, rather than red! (Be sure to check out my Mardi Gras decor here! And, if you haven’t seen it already, check out this post for inspiration for next year’s Christmas decorations.)
Keep it Simple with these Valentine Decorations Ideas
Pink Roses
Although I’m all about the Mardi Gras season, I try to incorporate some subtle Valentine’s Day decor throughout our home. For instance, in place of my favorite white roses, I add pink or red roses as we approach February 14.
I love keeping fresh flowers in the house. It doesn’t have to be extravagant…a simple bouquet from the grocery store is all you really need. Just change up the colors with the season!
Romantic Woodsy Scented Candles
My favorite candles are the vanilla-based “kitchen” scents. I enjoy burning these year-round, because they make the house smell like freshly baked goods! But I also really love romantic, woodsy scents.
This one, from Bath and Body Works is Smoked Vanilla, which was a seasonal fragrance that is unfortunately sold out on the website. But you can find one here and here. The Smoked Vanilla Wallflowers can be purchased here.
This is a wonderful, earthy, highly concentrated, smoky vanilla scent that spreads throughout the house. In fact, I only like to burn it for a short while if I am nearby. This is because it is so concentrated, and such a heavy-toned scent. As a result, since I don’t burn it for long periods of time, this candle lasts quite a while.
This candle comes in a pretty, earthy green jar with a ribbed texture. It’s simple, yet elegant, and a lovely complement to the pink roses for my Valentine’s Day decor.
More Easy Valentine’s Day Home Decor Ideas
Local friends of mine decorate with the handmade Valentines from their children from year to year. That’s a perfect idea, and so adorable!
Another idea is to display a cute Valentine’s themed kitchen towel or throw pillow.
Unless you are having a party, you may not want to go “all out” decorating for Valentine’s Day. It’s easy to add a few simple items to celebrate the holiday, without a lot of fuss.
How cute is this bronze-toned “love” accent? This unique piece would look wonderful on an accent table in your living room or foyer.
And these pillows would add some Valentine’s Glam to your bedroom or living room!
