In this post, I’m excited to share the Mardi Gras decorations that I used to decorate my home for the season this year. I’ll also give you other décor options, and links on where to purchase them.
January 6, Kings Day, marks the end of Christmas and is the beginning of the Mardi Gras season. In New Orleans, once January 6 arrives, we can’t put away the Christmas decorations fast enough. We are ready to decorate our homes in purple, green and gold for Carnival time!
Mardi Gras Decorations for Your Door
In true Mardi Gras fashion, our door decoration is very elaborate with the shiny deco mesh, glitter, and sequin embellishments.
Now, you know I usually like things pretty simple. However, as far as Mardi Gras decorations are concerned, anything goes!
I bought our door decoration from a local home décor shop. Here are some very similar options:
I especially like this one. In fact, I’m seriously considering ordering one for myself. I love the butterfly – it makes this wreath so whimsical and unique. In addition, the fact that it’s detachable makes this wreath versatile!

Coffee Table Mardi Gras Decorations
In my Holiday Living Room Tour I showed you the bowl of Christmas ornaments on the coffee table that I liked so much. (If you missed this post, be sure to check it out as well as this one for holiday decor inspiration!)
Once King’s Day arrived, I planned to create a similar display by replacing the Christmas ornaments with Mardi Gras ornaments. So, once we finished taking down all of the Christmas decorations, I set out to purchase my supplies.
The only Mardi Gras ornaments I could find were very large. They were beautiful, so I purchased a few of these.
In addition, I bought some floral picks with glittery purple, green, and gold balls in two sizes. My plan was to remove the larger balls from the picks and use them as ornaments.
Although I had a feeling the multi-colored ornaments would be too large for the bowl, I decided to give it a try.

The ornaments were so pretty, I really wanted this to work!
The ornaments complemented the finishes of the bowl and the coffee table beautifully. I really loved it. Almost.
As I suspected, the scale just wasn’t right. I couldn’t get comfortable with it. The ornaments seemed too large for this bowl, so I decided to find an alternative. But aren’t the colors just gorgeous?

As suspected, the ornaments were not the proper scale for this bowl.
While out running errands, I ran across some Christmas ornaments on clearance at Kmart.
They are traditional glass ornaments, in a frosted ivory pearl and a metallic Champagne gold. These will coordinate perfectly with my Christmas decor next year, so it was a great find.
These ornaments are the right size for my bowl display. Therefore, I thought about incorporating them somehow.
But I still had the issue of the multicolored ornaments being too large. And I really wanted to use those, because they were so pretty!
Decorating the Console Instead
Then it hit me – I received a beautiful bowl for Christmas that I had not yet found a home for. It was the perfect size to place on the console, and would easily accommodate the large ornaments as well!
I arranged the large multicolored ornaments, the balls from the floral picks, and a few of the gold clearance ornaments in the bowl.
The combination of vibrant colors, shiny metallics, and rich textures was even prettier than I had imagined. Like the coffee table, the console has a mirrored top, so the overall effect was similar.
These photos show how the ornaments look in the room at different times of the day, as the light changes.
The result was exactly what I wanted, the perfect little Mardi Gras accent for our living room! Decorating both the coffee table and the console would have been too much, so this worked out perfectly.
Placing ornaments in a bowl is a simple way to decorate for different seasons, or for a themed party.
Dining Room Mardi Gras Decorations
Do you remember the floral arrangements for our Holiday Housewarming Party? Each display had mini gold ornament embellishments. The ornaments had a satin finish – they were so pretty!

Christmas greenery with gold miniature ornament floral picks
Before discarding the flowers and greenery, I saved the floral picks for future use. They came in handy for my Mardi Gras decorations!
Some friends gave us this sweet little succulent arrangement for a housewarming/holiday gift. Now that the Christmas season is over, I decided to update it for Mardi Gras.
I removed the Christmas floral pick and saved it for next year.
Then, I added one of the picks with three small gold balls, and accented it with the glittery purple and green miniature balls.
I really like the contrast of the glittery purple and green with the muted Champagne gold!
This was such a quick and easy update, and the perfect accent to fill the void in the arrangement.
At first I thought I’d leave the plant in the kitchen. However, there were no Mardi Gras decorations in the dining room yet!
So, the Cactus has a home on the sideboard. At least until Fat Tuesday!
Little accents like this are the perfect way to add seasonal decor and a bit of color to your space.
Mardi Gras Decorations Ideas for Your Kitchen
Decorative towels are my favorite way to add seasonal decor to the kitchen. I am obsessed with this king cake kitchen towel (similar)! Isn’t it adorable?
And this little jester sits on the windowsill:
