Does your holiday weather feel like Summer? What can you wear during the holidays for a casual date outfit when it’s eighty degrees? How can you look “festive”, but still be comfortable?
Perhaps you’re traveling to a warmer climate to celebrate Christmas or New Year’s. I can totally relate! H and I love Mexico, and spent New Year’s in Cabo a few years ago. It can be challenging to dress for holiday outings when the weather is warm!
Here in New Orleans, this December has been soooo hot. It’s been tough dressing for holiday parties and get-togethers this season. Nearly every event this year has been hard to dress for due to the heat! So, for more warm-weather holiday outfit ideas, have a look at my housewarming party outfit and my holiday gift exchange outfit. The night we went on our annual visit to the “Waldorf Wonderland” display at the Roosevelt New Orleans was, once again, unseasonably warm. But I loved the outfit I wore that night so much, I had to share it with you! Besides being simple, stylish, and comfortable, it was perfect for the occasion.

Warm Weather Winter Outfits
In New Orleans, we look forward to the first cool day of Fall, and cannot wait to break out our boots and sweaters. Unfortunately, most days here just aren’t cold enough for traditional Winter clothing.
Therefore, layering is ideal for this type of climate. And, it’s important to keep some versatile Summer wardrobe items handy!
If you happen to live in a warm climate, or are visiting one for the holidays, you can easily put together an outfit like this that’s perfect for any informal outing.
Festive Casual Date Outfit
For my casual date outfit, I paired a flattering pair of skinny jeans with an off-white crepe tunic with spaghetti straps. Next, I added gold accessories to dress it up a bit. Then, I added slouchy suede boots for a comfortable “wintery” look.
The dressy texture and drape of the crepe tunic, plus the gold accessories made this an elegant outfit. The slouch boots kept it casual.
This upscale casual outfit would be perfect for a movie date, dining out, or to visit friends for an informal dinner or house party. In addition, it would be a good transitional outfit to wear Winter/Spring or Summer/Fall.
The actual items from my closet are no longer available, so I have provided similar choices at the end of the post.
A Festive Casual Date Outfit in 4 Simple Steps
When the weather is warm during the holidays, follow these 4 steps to style a festive holiday casual date outfit:
- Start with great fitting skinny jeans. For an elegant look, choose dark jeans and avoid “distressed” denim.
- Add a sleeveless tunic in a dressy material that makes you feel pretty and sexy.
- Pull on a pair of casual boots for that “Winter” look.
- Accessorize to dress up the outfit, with elegant jewelry or a scarf.
